“That way there should be no division in the body; instead,
all the parts mutually depend on and care for one another.” ~ 1 Corinthians 12:25 (Voice)
Do You Ever Have Morning Anxiety? This morning my nerves and anxiety surfaced like the boiling pot of oatmeal threatening to spill over on my stove. Later this week, I’m scheduled to have a biopsy for a rare inflammatory disease. With my husband away at a work conference, I feel emotionally weak and alone. Hours later, while walking with two women from my small group, I hesitated with embarrassment. I needed them. I knew I couldn’t handle this on my own.
“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers”. ~Galatians 6:10 (NIV)
My Friends’ Response Quieted My Fears
My caring friends immediately began planning, asking where and when my appointment was so they could meet me before and after the procedure.
“You both are busy with your jobs,” I said.
“No, we’re fine. We want to do this. We’ll pray with you, and during your procedure, we’ll walk.” They both agreed together.
“Well, just one of you can come along. I don’t need both of you,” giving them an out.
Again their words comforted me. “No, we’re glad to be here for you.”
My chest swelled, and my eyes moistened, such relief and comfort sweep over me. I thought, what comfort Jesus brings me through the body of believers. Grateful, my fear left me, and I felt God’s peace.
What Do You Need from the Body of Christ?
Prayer: Lord, help me to have the humility to show openness to others and ask for help. Let me receive the encouragement You want to give me through Your body. And show me how and when I can be Christ’s body to others in need. Amen.
