“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.”
Psalm 19:1-2 (NIV)
Early last night a June storm pummeled our home.
Rain prattled against the window,
Thunder rumbled the sky, all the earth drenched––
Each tree branch, every flowering plant
And blade of grass drank deeply of heaven
Pouring its’ provision of sustenance
For ten long minutes,
Relentlessly beating down.
Ah, but quickly as it came, the raining ceased,
Pealing thunder passed in the distance,
Parting clouds and piercing sunlight broke through
Unfolding waves of blue which gratefully, never abandoned us.
My spirit beckoned me into this peaceful moment,
Walking in this bright refreshed atmosphere of Grace.
Dripping plants gently breathed out dewy fragrance, renewing life and rest.
Thick dampness embraced my face and skin,
Waking my weary body, dispelling my fears,
Reassuring me, God is here.
Azure sky mixed with purple clouds, dark and white
Sunlight illumined the expanse with pink hues.
Birds sang sweetly into God’s creation filling me with hope
And certainty that God, faithful, and all-knowing of my struggle,
Will orchestrate a solution like light appearing after a storm.
No, He will not abandon me.
Yes, today God gave me an unexpected, consuming
And painful circumstance which tore into me like a storm.
Yet, now watching the sky clear, I believe
He will deliver and make a way.
God’s speech broke forth. His authority ruled the heavens and earth.
I beheld my stress-filled day and released it back to Him––
Even as the sky had split and given the earth exactly what it needed.
What message of God’s love and faithfulness have you seen through His creation?
Lord, remind me that You, Creator of the heavens and earth, know my mind, body, and soul struggle and wane. Strengthen me to trust you even as your creation fosters the knowledge that God is speaking. In turn, I cry out to You, hear my prayer and answer me.
