“…that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day’s need, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God and that there is no other.” ~1Kings 8:59b, 60 (NIV)
This morning, my heart felt heavy and the day had only begun. After breakfast, my husband and I prayed about a family member struggling in their marriage and another who had logistical challenges with a move. We specifically asked God to help them with their concerns.
What about your concerns for today? When King Solomon dedicated the temple to God, he got on his knees to pray with his hands spread out toward heaven. His body language symbolized his heart of surrender and openness. After praying, he rose and blessed the people. Solomon’s words bring us comfort and assurance that God hears our prayers. and He will provide according to each person’s need.
What can we learn from Solomon’s prayer? Solomon recognized God’s greatness above all gods. He reminded everyone of God’s love and faithfulness to His good promises. How has God shown you His love? What promises has God kept in your life? Bring remembrance to Him in praise for it. Second, Solomon implored the people to keep the commands of the Lord. How has God been faithful to your family? How can you build your trust based on God’s kindness towards them? If you are the only Christian in your family, consider how God has strengthened your faith and how He can use you to bless others. Look to God expectantly and wait for His blessing.
Third, Solomon hoped that the words he had spoken would be near to God day and night. That means he believed God never took a 15-minute coffee break. Since God is never on holiday, He’s always available, therefore, we can call on Him anytime.
Lastly, Solomon believed God would uphold the cause of the people according to each day’s need. What is your need today? Tell God specifically. Why? So that everyone will know the Lord is God. There is no other! Commit your heart fully to the Lord. Finally, Solomon states the qualifier; our hearts must be fully committed to the Lord our God to live and obey His commands. What are your needs today? Tell God each one. Thank Him in advance for His faithfulness.
Believe His promise, “I will never leave or forsake you.”~ 1 Kings 8:57 (NIV)
Lord, Thank You for Your interest in my needs each new day. You delivered Israel from slavery and You desire to free me from anything that brings shame, slavery, or doesn’t please You. May my heart be open and surrendered to keep trusting You. Bless me, for Your mercy is great, because You are kind.
